Product Description: Gin has a long and interesting history. In 18th century England Gin, increasingly became blamed for various social and medical problems. In 1736 the English “Gin Act” banned gin. This led to gin being sold on the black market were it was prepared in illicit stills and was often adulterated with turpentine and sulfuric acid. Like almost all prohibitions, it did not work, and repeal followed in 1742, because illegal gin was worse than the legal kind. The negative reputation of gin survives even today in the English language. Terms such as “gin-soaked” refers to drunks, and terms like "gin mills" or "gin joints" describe disreputable bars. Despite its past poor reputation, gin based cocktails are a delight to savour. Join Mrs Nice on her exploratory journey through the realm of gin based cocktails.
